Supergoop! Everyday Sunscreen

Last month I was lucky enough to be chosen by Birchbox as a Birchblogger to receive a couple of Supergoop! products and be part of their Google Hangout with Heidi Thaggard founder of Supergoop!  I was so excited to try out these products since I’m such an advocate for sun care after living in Arizona for so long.  I learned a lot about skincare and sun damage and different ways to help avoid it during the chat.  If you’re interested in seeing the recorded footage click here.  Over the next couple of days I’ll be reviewing the couple products I was given to test.  Lets get started! sg everyday1First let’s talk about their basic sunscreen.  It is called Everyday SPF30 with Cellular Response Technology.  In terms of a sunscreen this is pleasant.  It is quite the liquid consistency which doesn’t seem to go well with the tube.  If you’re not careful you can make a real mess!  I do have to say, I used this when we were outside doing our patio and although I should have reapplied more than just once, I did end up with the most awkward sunburn I’ve ever had.  It was splotchy and inconsistent.   There were random patcsg everyday2hes of burnt spots and around that was no burn or tan.  It was by far the weirdest experience I’ve ever had with sunscreen.  Aside from that though, it soaked into the skin nicely and doesn’t have a bad sunscreen smell.  It’s pleasant.  Overall I would recommend this, but you really have to be careful to apply regularly when you’re out in the sun!  This retails for $19.00 for a 2.4oz tube or $48.00 for the 18oz jug.

Holy Splotchy Sunburn!

Stila Lip Glaze

I’m not new to Stila or their Lip Glaze, but this particular color I am new to.  It is a really pretty sheer pink.  I have pretty pink lips to begin with so when I put it on it just amplifies my lips to a glossier better version of themselves!

Stila Lip Glaze

The scent of this gloss is TO-DIE-FOR!  OMG, seriously, it smells just like strawberry lemonade, but not like you’re thinking, no it smells just like the Country Time Strawberry Lemonade.  It brings back memories of childhood!  YUM.  However it doesn’t taste like it, rather it doesn’t really taste like anything which is good, don’t want to be tempted to lick all of the lip gloss off!

The packaging hasn’t changed in the 6 years since I last tried it.  It has a twist bottom that clicks the product up, and it has a little lip brush end that allows for easy application.  Highlighter pens have similar and sometimes the same packaging.  It is sleek and slender and fits well into a purse or makeup bag.

So as you can tell, up to this point I’ve liked the product.  But here we’re taking a turn for the worse…  The texture of this gloss is awful.  I’m not sure how people really like it.  I had this problem with it years ago when I tried it.  It’s thick and sticky.  Very sticky.  When this was in the summer glam set I was hoping that they had reformulated it or something.  Unfortunately they didn’t though.

In the end – If you’re not one of those people who cares about sticky gloss then this would be right up your alley.  The color is gorgeous and perfect for summer and to be honest I will continue to use it because I like the color, but I’d rather find a color similar by someone else before going back to buy more of this.  It retails for $8.00 each or 3 for $15.00 at Ulta.

March Ipsy and Birchbox

I hope everyone has had an amazing week!  I don’t know about you guys but I’m definitely ready for the weekend!  Today I thought I’d take you through the Ipsy and Birchbox subscriptions I got this month!  Also thinking about doing a vlog about my updated skincare routine since having all of my skin issues.  Would that be something you’re interested in seeing?  Onto the post!

This month I got my first Ipsy Glam Bag!  And I LOVE EVERY PIECE!  First off, let me explain the glam bag.  Its the same concept as birchbox but a little different.  Cost is $10.00, each month you get a little makeup bag (this month’s was designed by a San Francisco artist) and 4 or 5 travel or full size items.

My bag this month included

Hope in a Jar Foundation

HopeInAJarSo I’d been looking for a foundation that I loved, and I did have one that I really liked.  The Tarte Amazonian Clay, however, its a super full coverage, and sometimes its just a little too much.  So I really wanted something more light to medium that was buildable.

I have super dry skin that is currently recovering from a reaction to retionoid (although its a million times better than it was a couple months ago, there are still some pimples popping up occasionally)

Updated of Disappointment…

So its been a few weeks since I’ve tried the Garnier Triple Nutrition Miracle Dry Oil and I wanted to give a second look update.  And I have to say I’ve been kind of disappointed in this product.

First off, on my hair.  It just doesn’t really work.  It turns my roots into an oil slick and if I put it just on my ends the ends are super soft and shiny but the rest isn’t.  It just looks strange.  I feel like every way I’ve tried to put it on my hair just deposits too much.  Maybe its because my hair is so fine, the same happens when I use CHI Silk Infusion.  But doesn’t happen with Silk Therapy or Super Skinny Serum.  So, it just doesn’t work with my hair.  Bummer.

Unfortunately my skin is just entirely too sensitive to feel comfortable using this regularly on my face.  I’m still having some reactions to the retenoid that I’m using, and I don’t want to make it worse so I’m just sticking with minimal facial products right now.  Although I have used it on my neck and decolatage and that seemed to work wonderfully.

As for my skin, I love it on my skin, but only if my skin isn’t ridiculously dry in the first place.  I noticed that its just not moisturizing enough to be used on its own during this super dry winter months (it seems to be at first, but within a few hours, its dry and itchy skin again).  However, my legs have never felt silkier after shaving than with using this and a light lotion.  If used with a lotion under it expect greatness.  That being said though, I don’t know if its worth it to get this when you have to use a lotion underneath it.  This might be a different story in any other season.  One girl in this campaign used it on her dry cracked heels and within 5 days they were no longer dry or cracked.  That gives me hope for the summer (which is when I get dry cracked heels).

It did manage to breathe some life back into my tattoo (which fades drastically when my skin is dry)

Overall, I’d give this 3 stars out of 5.  Mostly because it does feels super silky and soft on skin, and has a delightful smell.  Its just not right on my hair or my face.  Although I do thank BzzAgent for allowing me to try this product for free.   Irregardless of if I like the product or not, I do like the opportunity to sample, try and review products.

YSL – Le Teint Touche Eclat

A few posts ago I reviewed a Tarte Foundation (Maracuja Miracle Foundation). (click here to see that review).  And I loved the foundation, the texture, the lightweight yet full coverage finish.  Outside the color (Light) seemed to be perfect on me, and under fluorescent lighting the color seemed off but overall still matched.  Unfortunately a picture was taken of me and I looked unnaturally yellow.  🙁  I was so disappointed when I saw the picture.  The finish was flawless and beautiful, but the color was awful.  I was devastated to see that the lighter color (Ivory) had pink undertones which doesn’t work for me, and the lightest color (Fair) although being the right undertones was just entirely too light.  Now, if I could have afforded it, I could have bought Fair and mixed it with the Light, but I couldn’t afford another $42 bottle of foundation.  Luckily Sephora has a great return and exchange policy and since I was within 60 days I decided to exchange it.

With my Sephora purchase I received a sample of Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Eclat Illuminating Foundation SPF 19 in the color Beige 30.  Immediately seeing the name beige made me nervous usually those are so off in coloring on me, but I found out it was the perfect color for me.  Blending perfectly down my neck.  I used the sample 2 times and noticed myself wanting to use that more often than my tarte foundation.  It left a nice luminous finish, didn’t turn patchy on my dry skin, and matched perfectly in all lighting!  After about a week of contemplating I decided to exchange my loved tarte foundation for this one.

I love love love love it!  The color is a mix between the tarte colors Light and Fair, matching me perfectly.  The foundation is very liquidy which glides on nicely with a medium but buildable coverage.  It is so lightweight that I often forgot I was wearing foundation at all.  It left a light luminous finish, but with the ability to remove that luminosity with a simple matte or shine control powder.  I didn’t need to set with a finishing powder on my dry skin, but in the spring or summer I might need to.  We’ll see.

Tarte ysl

Overall, even though it cost me an additional $13 for this foundation, I love it.  And even better, my favorite tarte concealer blends in much easier with this foundation!  It doesn’t look as off as it did with the tarte foundation.  So glad I exchanged it.  It just goes to show that sometimes those free samples are a life saver!

Onward by Howard Schultz Review

Let me preface this by saying- I am not a fan of Starbucks.

That being said, I loved this book.  It not only showed the inner workings of Starbucks, but it also explains what it is like to be a ceo of a large corporation.

It also shows the struggles of trying to bring a company back from its breaking point.  Aside from that it delved into the inter workings of the company.

I am still not a huge Starbucks fan but I do respect the hell out of the company for all its done, not just for its coffee farmers but for the world of coffee in general.

It is definitely a good read if you’re interested in coffee, or how a company can manage to come back, or even how an ex ceo can return and go with his gut.

Catching Fire and Mockingjay

Well, I read this rather quickly and it may have been my favorite of the three.  When you begin reading it you expect the book to go one way and it eventually switched to something completely different!  I loved it!

I probably read this one the fastest.  I enjoyed this book as well although I feel like there were so many areas that could have been expanded upon.  Overall the series is very well written and a great easy read.  The way Suzanne Collins was able to take all things popular today and mold them into a slightly disturbing yet enthralling story.  I feel that just about anyone would like these stories.  I definitely recommend reading them in you are looking for something that is quick and easy to read.

Again I think Catching Fire was my favorite as it took the series in a different direction that was first expected.

I do have these as a lend me on my nook, as always they are first come first serve.

As for the movie, I feel they did a pretty good job staying true to the story, but as usual, the book was so much better than the movie.  I recommend reading it first and then seeing the movie.

Finally done and done

Sorry its taken so long to update my final info from Chalean Extreme. I was very proud of my results, although food wise I wasn’t able to be quite as strict as I would have liked to have been in the end. But I still managed to lose about 5 pounds, about 2% body fat and about 6 inches. So overall it was a definite success.

I loved everything about the program. It was challenging, and fun, and definitely different from anything else I’ve ever done. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a challenge and wanting results. Because it definitely gave me them. I still have a little ways to go, but as for right now I’m going to worry about just maintaining where I am because I need to get settled here in Maine.

I am currently doing Turbo Jam now. I just started a few days ago, and I definitely think its a BLAST. I totally don’t feel like I’m working out, but I finish sweating like a pig and feeling great. I love it, I wish turbo kick was offered at a gym near by, but its not, so maybe I’ll become an instructor and then make it available places =] We’ll see.

I’ll keep you posted for sure.
