Updates and Makeup Faves!

Sorry about missing Monday’s post, but I’ve been super busy trying to finish Nick’s 1st anniversary gift.  I can’t wait to post about it once I’ve given it to Nick!  Its been super fun to do, although super messy and kind of exhausting!  Nick’s crazy schedule has made it way more difficult to get it done than it should have been!

I’ve also been writing every morning, for only 5-15 minutes each morning.  Creative writing prompts mostly.  Some to do new stuff, some pulling out old memories.  Its been kind of fun.  I cleaned out our office, shredded all of our old documents, cleaned off the desk so that I could actually put the typewriter on the desk.  I’ll post some of those soon.

As for today, I wanted to post some makeup reviews.  I’ve gotten quite the plethora of items over the last couple of months.  Most are actually quite nice, I actually don’t think I got any duds!

Tarte Maracuja Miracle Foundation and Concealer

I love the texture and feeling of this foundation and concealer.  Its almost weightless and definitely full coverage.  I’m having a ton of skin problems, and my skin doesn’t flare up, turn red, itch or break out from this foundation.  It can be put on with a flat foundation brush for a very opaque finish, with a buffing type brush for a flawless airbrushed finish (my preference) or it can be put on with fingers for a more sheer coverage (although sheer for this foundation is more of a medium coverage).  Its a little pricey at $42 for the foundation and $24 for the concealer.  Definitely recommend it!

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner

I got this in blackest black.  It goes on smoothly, is safe for contact lenses, and sensitive eyes.  I’ve used it to tightline (on the water line, upper and lower).  My only concern with it is if you spread it too thin it ends up being a charcoal black instead of blackest black.  Not a huge problem if you don’t mind doing a second coat.  I liked how smoothly it went on, and it stayed for at least 10 hours (although possibly would have longer, but that’s when I went to wash my face).  I haven’t used the brush that comes with it as I have 2 other fine liner brushes that I really like (Real Techniques and Paula’s Choice)  Way more affordable than MAC Blacktrax at only $9.99.

Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Ash

I had been searching for a good brow pencil.  All of the ones I had used were either too soft or too red or too thick.  Just not want I wanted.  I got this for Christmas in a value kit from Ulta.  It came with a Brow Wiz, Brow Duality (double ended highlighter), tweezers and Clear Brow Gel.  Its a wonderful kit and although I use everything regularly the Brow Wiz is my all time favorite!  Its a firm enough pencil that you can create hairline strokes, it doesn’t smudge and blends quite nicely with the spool on the opposite end of the pencil.  I was concerned that it would be too light for my dark eyebrows but it is actually perfect for a subdued eyebrow.  I plan on getting the brunette color as well for when I want a stronger darker brow.  The color doesn’t have a red undertone like most brow pencils do, which is great with my dark ash brown hair.  All in all, even though its a little pricey at $21, its well worth it!  The kit from ulta was $29, and comes with a full size wiz, full size duality, and travel size brow gel.

Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Cream Shadows

I love these cream shadows.  They go on smoothly with either a brush or a finger, the blend nicely and they stay put for what seems like forever.  This formula doesn’t crease if put on in layers.  I’ve used it as a base for eyeshadow, and it works wonderfully, and I’ve used it alone and it works nicely that way as well.  The price is great for the product at only $6.99 and there is a nice choice of shades, and with a brand new collection of shades (Metal collection) it seems the color tattoo will be around for years to come.  I’ve used the colors Too Cool (now apparently discontinued) which is a lovely iced white with a slight shimmer, and Inked in Pink (from the new Metal collection, shown in picture) which is a slightly darker than baby pink.  Both are beautiful and I definitely intend on buying more, like the Tenacious Teal, Audacious Asphalt, Bad to the Bronze, Electric Blue, and Barely Branded all seem like beautiful colors!

So that’s a good start on a few of my newest favorite products!  More to come at a later date, and hopefully I can get some actual pictures up of how these look on me!
